Project Spotlight: Structural Strengthening with Carbon Fiber Wrapping in Surat
We are proud to showcase our recently completed structural retrofitting project in Surat, where we utilized advanced Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) wrapping technology to enhance the load-bearing capacity and longevity of vital bridge infrastructure.
The Technology: Why Carbon Fiber?
Carbon fiber wrapping is a cutting-edge solution for bridge rehabilitation. By applying high-strength carbon fabrics impregnated with epoxy resin to concrete pillars (piers) and crossbeams, we create a "jacket" that provides exceptional tensile strength without adding significant weight or bulk to the structure.
Key Benefits of This Project:
Seismic Reinforcement: Improved ductility and confinement for concrete columns, making them more resilient to seismic activity.
Corrosion Resistance: The CFRP layer acts as an impermeable barrier, protecting the internal steel reinforcement from Surat's humid and coastal environmental conditions.
Minimal Downtime: Unlike traditional concrete jacketing, CFRP application is fast and requires minimal heavy machinery, ensuring traffic flow is not disrupted for long periods.
High Strength-to-Weight Ratio: Carbon fiber is significantly stronger than steel yet incredibly lightweight, maintaining the original aesthetics of the flyover.
